When your imagination and wants are in conflict, your imagination will always win.

For example, let's say you wanted to cross a plank of wood stretched out over a chasm twenty metres above a river. How would you react?

In my experience, the average person reacts with some trepidation, if not outright fear. However, if the plank were lying on the ground, you wouldn't hesitate to walk across it because there is very little for the mind to imagine.

In the first instance, your desire to walk across the plank would come into conflict with your imagination. You would start to imagine the possibility of falling off the plank into the river below. You may have a strong desire to walk across the plank, but your fear, created by your imagination, would prevent you from doing so.

The more you try to suppress your fear, the greater power is given to the dominating idea of falling. Suppressing the fear means that you are focusing on what you don't want to happen. Your subconscious will accept the stronger of the two contradicting propositions. Aldous Huxley called this the Law of Reversed Effort - "The harder we try with the conscious will to do something, the less we shall succeed."

The conflict between want and imagination can be resolved by taking yourself into a relaxed state. In this state, negative thoughts and imagination disappear. When you let your mind see yourself accomplishing your desire, your subconscious helps you realise its fulfilment.

Imagination is a great power that can change your whole life.

What you are doing is forming a mental image of something that is not perceived through your senses. Imagination makes it possible for you to experience a whole world inside your mind. It gives you the ability to look at any situation from a different point of view, whether in business or in your personal life.

It includes all five senses and the feelings. For example, it can be used in business to sell a product or service to a prospective buyer by imagining how you will feel when they agree to purchase it, or what they might say at the point of sale and how you will handle it.

You can achieve many great goals if you use your imagination creatively.

Imagination and visualisation are powerful techniques that you can use to your advantage. If you visualise, have faith, take inspired action, and persist, then be assured you will achieve your goals and desires.

Very few people ever realise their dreams or goals. In their imagination, they fail to see it happening; there is no preview in their minds of what it is they really, really, want.

Albert Einstein said many things about imagination, but I like this quote best: "Imagination is the preview of life's coming attractions."

What you imagine with faith comes into being. It is the power beyond creative visualisation, positive thinking and affirmations. Understanding how to use your imagination correctly and putting this knowledge into practice for your and other people's benefit will put you on the road to success.
